Sports Hall in Massa
A modern and green building
able to meet the needs of differentiated users
Born from the redevelopment of the previous sports hall, closed to the public for over 8 years, the new Sports Hall in Massa is a modern building able to meet the needs of different users and to host regional and national sports events. The new sports hall has a total area of over 1,900 sqm, divided into three independent, but functionally connected, bodies. The central body houses the playgrounds, the stands, a first aid room, the toilets, the ticket office, a refreshment point and a warehouse. The second block, with two floors above ground, hosts on the ground floor the locker rooms, the toilets, a first aid room, an anti-doping room, a room dedicated to the reception of athletes and a technical room; on the first floor, the press room with relative toilet and the technical rooms (heating plant, UPS, heat recovery, heat pump). A further building, of smaller dimensions and with a single floor above ground, houses two stores and a technical room. 2 rooftops for air treatment were installed on the roof of this building.
The design team had to take into account different needs expressed by the client.
Flexibility and adaptability of the spaces to the different needs of sports groups were fundamental, as well as comfort and healthy air both in summer and winter.
Management costs had to be contained through optimized size of the volumes, adequate thermal insulation, accurate definition of the plant components, choice of durable materials, ease of maintenance, use of renewable energy sources.
The air conditioning system
The comfort of athletes and spectators and the air quality are granted by 2 CLIVETPack2 CSNX-XHE2 packaged heat pumps for high attendance equipped with a probe to detect the CO2 in the air in order to adapt the fresh airflow rate according to the real needs, reducing management costs.
The system is completed with Clivet ELFOEnergy Magnum heat pump that in winter provides hot water for the playing field heating radiant floor, and in summer provides cold water for the dehumidification of the changing rooms. Equipped with multi-scroll inverter technology, it modulates its capacity, following the plant needs.
The objectives of flexibility, comfort and lowering of management costs were achieved thanks to the use of Clivet systems, which modulate their operation based on the system's precise requests.
The use of electrically powered heat pump technology has made it possible to reduce local emissions of combustion gas, maximizing the exploitation of the use of renewable energies, both aerothermal energy from the air and solar energy produced by the 32kW photovoltaic system installed on the roof.
